As you develop your list of questions to ask candidates, keep in mind that all questions must be strictly job related. Avoid questioning applicants about such subjects as race, color, ethnic background, family history, or membership in ethnic or other organizations; marital status, children, or childcare arrangements; spouse’s occupation; church membership or religious beliefs and practices; sexual orientation or preferences; medical history; and age. Also, you cannot ask questions of applicants of one gender that you don’t ask applicants of the other— for instance, you cannot ask only your female candidates if they can type.
