One way to avoid excessive rule violations is not to have too many rules. This may seem like an easy way out, but it’s not. Rules do serve a purpose—they keep the workplace safe, cost efficient, and running smoothly. However, rules may become a burden rather than a help when they regulate too much of an individual’s workday.

So, before establishing a rule, consider its intent. See if you can create a rule that meets your goal yet doesn’t put unnecessary restrictions on your workers’ approach to their jobs.
